Question:
I have to deliver something interim and everything’s still up in the air.
Answer: When things are in doubt, use vaguification.
Vaguification is the process of avoiding controversy by removing all factual statements. This means we don’t commit to anything but we can’t get in trouble for it, either. For example, if we can’t agree on what waterproofing measures to take for Component C, we don’t try to spell out three different methods. Instead, we say, “Follow industry best practices for waterproofing…”
The doc won’t be as useful but it’ll be somewhat safer to distribute, and it’ll never get out of date.
