Question: Our projects use clever code names before the official name is chosen, and they don’t have any relation to what the product is. How do I keep them all straight?
Answer:
You’ll just have to keep your own secret list and charge everyone a dollar to look at it.
It’s actually worse than you think, because there can be multiple code names for the same project. I think even the teams themselves don’t always know. Sometimes projects merge or split, and it’s really hard to figure out which one your stock incentives are tied to.
You can’t always figure it out by going to the project lifecycle system, even though that’s supposed to be the ultimate authority. Things change so fast, and no one wants to update it 20 times a day.
This is just one more example of spending too much time on the wrong things.
